2009 WHITEWATER GUIDE SCHOOL

Canyon Rio offers potential river guides the best whitewater school in the Southwest! Learn the professional skills you need to be a whitewater rafting guide. You’ll learn essential guiding skills in up to Class III whitewater on the scenic Upper Salt River or on the Upper San Juan River and Rio Chama. The course will include hands-on instruction in:

Paddle and oar-boat techniques
Rescue and emergencies
Outdoor cooking
Knot tying
Equipment repair
Rigging
River conservation and etiquette

Our instructors are Class V guides and have over 100 combined years of experience. The guide/student ratio is 1 to 4, with class size limited to 16 students. This course offers students the best of whitewater instruction and a whole lot of fun!

Cost

The cost of $750.00 per person includes meals, boats, lifejackets, wetsuits, and shuttles — all you need to bring is personal and sleeping gear. Once you sign up, we’ll send you a list of items to bring, along with directions to the site.
